Massage Therapy Music as Stress-Reliever

An ancient practice is as a stress-relief work, this practice is known as Massage Therapy. Massage therapy is mainly used to reduce the high stress level that comes with modern lifestyle and to improve the blood circulation in the whole body by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues. From thousands of years ago, people have been opting for old healing method to combat the fatigue. But today it is applied to cure even many chronic diseases like depression, diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure and many more. Good massage therapists enhance the result by applying scented oils, lotions and powders in massage. These items also reduce any friction on the skin. One can also incorporate some soothing music like meditation music, yoga music or other kind of devotional music to get the better result as music helps to relax the mind.

Client Consultation in Massage Therapy

The importance of the client consultation procedure must be made obvious in any massage study course that you evaluate. When working as holistic massage therapist it is very important to carry out a client consultation before performing any spa or massage treatment.

If this is their first visit you will need to conduct a client consultation with them. A client consultation helps you to determine why the client has come to seek your professional service. It helps you to evaluate any health issues they may have, be these emotional or physical. This will help you to formulate a treatment plan to help elevate the client's symptoms.

The client consultation information should include:

   - Personal details
   - Medical History
   - Contra Indications
   - Clients lifestyle
   - Treatment record

When carrying out a client consultation we are looking for contraindications to treatment. Contraindications are health conditions that the client may have which mean that you should exercise caution or possibly avoid working on an area of the body. In more extreme cases you may need to avoid treatment altogether.

The Power of Reflexology (Reflex Zone Therapy)

How does reflexology work?

There are many theories surrounding reflexology, but in our approach we look at the nervous system as the explanation of reflexology's power. Pressure applied to the hands, feet or ears generates a signal through the peripheral nervous system. From there it enters the central nervous system where it is processed in various parts of the brain. It is then relayed to the internal organs to allocate the necessary adjustments in fuel and oxygen, and finally a response is fashioned that is sent onto the motor system. This message is feed forward to adjust the body's tone or overall tension level. If applied properly the tone will reset itself to a lower operating tempo. A lower operating tempo means a lessening of stress and less wear and tear on the body's systems.

Where do you apply the technique?

We apply techniques to the feet and hands. There is a school of thought that also applies it to the ear arguing it is also reflexology. The techniques, however, are modified from auricular therapy, an acupuncture technique. It could be argued that all bodywork is reflexive therefore reflexology. We find that the extremities have a powerful influence because of locomotion. While we acknowledge that repeated patterns exist throughout the body we find our most effective focus to be the feet and hands.

What are the benefits of reflexology?

In general terms, the benefits of reflexology have to do with the reduction of stress. Because the feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal and reset homeostasis, the body's equilibrium.

Things to Consider When Buying Massage Oils

As you choose your massage oil, you need to be clear about what you need. Some massage oils may have unpleasant smells while others may cause irritation to your skin. Also, some massage oils will be used with specific skin types and not with others. For example, whereas virgin coconut massage oil is good for skin that is dehydrated, avocado massage oil is ideal for dry or mature skin while jojoba massage oil can be used with all skin types. Once you know the skin type that you are dealing with, it is possible to choose massage oil from the many that are available.

Also, remember that massage oils that are thicker are good for use during cold weather while those that are light are good for use during warm weather. All these factors and many more go a long way in determining the massage oil that you choose. In addition, for people with oily skins, very thick massage oils may make them feel uncomfortable and it will be better for them to use the lighter massage oils. On the other hand, almond massage oil is rather greasy and thus better used with a skin type that is dry or for purposes of moisturizing during dry weather.

Always remember that your massage oil does not have to be expensive for it to produce the results that you need. Look at the ingredients of your massage oil to ensure that it does not have anything that you are sensitive to. If you notice anything that you are sensitive to, then that should tell that the given massage oil is not the best for you and as such, you should seek other alternatives.

Tips on Choosing a Massage Table

Massage therapy is one of the fast emerging and highly popular way to treat common ailments related to fatigue and muscle pain etc. If you are going to need regular sessions of massage therapy, it is very important that you purchase your own equipment. Among other things, you will need a massage therapy table. Such tables are available in the market and online so shopping around is not an issue but before you buy them, you will have to consider certain basic things.

Which Brand To Buy?
First of all, you will have to decide which brand of table do you want to buy. There are a number of companies which sell massage equipment including tables. A table made by well known brand would be expensive but it also comes with the reliability of that brand. You can get cheaper tables but their life cannot be guaranteed so it is like taking a risk. It may work for you, it may not!

Folding Table or Standing One?
Second aspect is the choice if you want a folding table or a standing one. The choice here depends upon the space you have in your home. If you can dedicate a room to health care, exercise and massage therapy sessions, you can have a fixed form table. Such a table is very durable. If you think that there is not enough space in your room, then the folding table will work for you.

Overall Massage Table Weight
Third important aspect is the overall weight of the table. This includes not only the frame and sheet of the table but its overall weight with all the cushions and padding and other paraphernalia. Generally an all equipped table can weigh up to 50 kg. Heavy tables are very sturdy but if you will ever have to move them around, you would definitely need help. Based upon the continuous and ever increasing demand, lightweight massage tables are now available in the market as well which you may want to consider.

Wooden Frame or Metal Frame?
Another really important thing that you would have to consider before buying massage therapy table is if you want the table with a wooden frame or a metal frame. Each has its own advantages. The sturdiness of metal frame is better for every gram of weight. Wood tables look like home furniture whereas metal frame gives a hospital room like feeling.

Considering these aspects will help you ensure that you get the best massage table.

Brief History of Massage Therapy

Massage, or body therapy as it is also known, is a natural instinct. The benefits of touch have, it seems, always been known to man and appear across all cultures right around the world.

India: Most records of massage in India speak of the sensuality of massage rather than the medical benefit. According to Hindu Tantra the Kundalini or life force originates at the base of the spine and is part of the interaction of cosmic forces of female and male energy. This area would be soothed and stimulated with a combination of massage, yogic positions and breathing exercises.

Greece: Ancient Greek physicians commonly prescribed massage as a remedy in conjunction with poultices, tonics, fresh air and a corrective diet. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, is known for his holistic approach to treatment. He recognised the benefits of massage for treating a wide range of ailments. His belief was that disease was caused naturally and so should be treated naturally.

Rome: The Romans were known to rub sore and tired muscles with warm oil after bathing and before enjoying a full body massage to stimulate the nervous system and ease the action of their joints. The idea of bathing and massage became widespread throughout the Roman Empire.

China: The Chinese are thought to have initiated the first formal examinations in massage. Medical students were examined in acupuncture, massage and treatment of disease. Formal qualifications were highly saught after and considered very prestigious.

Europe: Henrik Ling from Sweden lived between 1776 and 1839 and is known as the father of modern western massage. He developed a system which included gymnsastic movement with massage (this system is now what is known as Swedish massage). In Britain a society of trained massueses was formed in 1895 and in 1899 a massage department was instituted at St Georges hospital in London.

Today, modern massage has almost turned full circle, back to the teachings and holistic approach of the Chinese and the Ancient Greeks and utilising techniques from both the east and the west.

It is now widely recognised that almost everyone can benefit from therapeutic massage; from infants to the elderly, from athletes to the infirm.

Massage is known to provide relief from pain, anxiety, stress and even insomnia. It can be stimulating or soothing, it can provide a context for recovery by inducing a sense of well being.

Massage therapy is about trust, respect, connection and healing. It is a wonderful way to regain contact and control of your body, find relief and comfort from pain and maintain good health.

Asian Water Aerobics: Manila, Philippines

Due to the constant resistance provided by the water all around us, virtually everything we do while we’re underwater can be considered a fitness activity. It’s no wonder why competitive divers and swimmers often have the types of physiques that most people envy – they build muscle and burn fat quickly because they’re constantly propelling themselves through water. But you don’t need to be a serious swimmer to achieve the many benefits of water exercise.

For decades, athletes and fitness-coconscious people have used water aerobics as a way to get an intense workout that burns calories much more efficiently than many other forms of exercise.

From water aerobic exercises to water walking exercises, working out in the pool is an excellent non-impact way to build strength, increase flexibility and reduce body fat. Water aerobic classes may be performed in swimming facilities in health clubs and resorts. As you participate in water aerobics classes, you can easily burn calories while reducing your risk of injury compared to other forms of exercise such as running, weight lifting, or contact sports.

Body Options Asian Water Yoga: Manila, Philippines

What Is Yoga? Although it seems like a hot new trend, yoga actually began more than 3,000 years ago in India. The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, and it means to "yoke," or bring together the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga is like music. The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind and the harmony of the soul creates the symphony of life.

Although yoga includes exercise, it is also a lifestyle for which exercise is just one component. Disciplining your mind and body as well as connecting with your spirituality are the main goals of the yoga lifestyle. Yoga has countless benefits. It improves flexibility, strength, balance, and stamina. In addition to its physical benefits, many people who practice yoga claim that it reduces anxiety and stress and improves mental clarity.

Are you looking for a workout program that's easy to learn, requires little or no equipment, and soothes your soul while toning your body? Is strengthening your cardiovascular system, toning and stretching your muscles, and improving your mental fitness are still your to-do list? Then this water yoga training-workshop is for you.

Floating and suspended Yoga poses are primarily to improve joint mobility, muscle coordination, overall strength and relaxation. Suspended Yoga poses also help to apply traction to the spine. Wall assisted poses address muscle lengthening and gentle aligning of the joints. Breathwork is extremely important especially during the meditation segment that often includes neck and shoulder stretches.

Body Options Asian Water Shiatsu: Manila, Philippines

Water Shiatsu grew out of the principles of Zen Shiatsu, which emphasizes stretching to heal and open up the body, a method practiced in the eastern world even before acupuncture and ayurveda. Water not only relaxes the body, but it also takes weight off the joints of the vertebrae, and frees the spine in ways impossible on land. Conditions that place stress on the joints (arthritis, obesity and osteoporosis) are specially addressed in Water Shiatsu.

As soon as you step into the pool, relaxation is immediate. The therapist supports the receiver’s weight and the receiver floats into a unique world of breath and fluid movements. Moved through the water, stretched, cradled and massaged, the receiver becomes aware of her entire body. Tensions dissolve and the receiver feel life expanding into long-ignored places. The back, neck, shoulders, arms, hips and legs – every part of the body is invited to release and move freely.

For some, Water Shiatsu evokes the serenity of the womb and for others, the delight of playing in the water as a child. Many people find the timeless, sacred container of Water Shiatsu sessions ideal for personal reflection and integrating new insights. A graceful dance, a meditation, a luxurious sensory journey – whatever your experience, the receiver ends up feeling relaxed, cared for, and revitalized.

In a stressful, isolating world, Water Shiatsu offers us the unique opportunity to feel deeply connected. The nurturing, nonsexual intimacy and the experience of embodied freedom it provides nourish the soul.
