Bentosa (Fire Cupping) Massage Therapy Training

Negative pressure cupping therapy is an ancient orientaltherapy in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (either by heat or suction) in order to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is moved, causing the skin and muscle to be pulled. This is called glidingcupping.

Sanitized glass or plastic suction cups are generally used for cupping, although bamboo cups are also used. Glass cups are fitted with a valve that attaches to a small hand-operated pump, allowing the practitioner to suck out air without having to rely on fire to depressurise the cup first. It also gives them greater control over the amount of suction. The modern name for cupping is suction cup therapy.

Muscle Cramps and Sports Massage / Deep Tissue Massage

Muscle cramp is an involuntary contraction of the muscle which can be very painful. Massage can be beneficial in relieving cramp as it happens by stimulating blood flow and helping to stretch the muscle. Massage can also be of benefit in the days and weeks following a bout of cramp as well as in preventing cramp.
When the muscle suffers cramp it goes into spasm. The spasm squeezes the blood out of the muscle like a sponge preventing the muscle from getting its nutrients. In addition, if the spasm is severe then there may be damage to the muscle (a muscle strain).

The benefits of sports massage are to help to release tension in the muscle and stimulate blood flow. It can also help with stretching a muscle, particularly transversely or sideways in a way that normal stretching cannot.
Massage must not be performed during the acute stage of this injury - usually 48 hours after injury. This is because if there is still bleeding then heat and massage will increase bleeding, not stop it.

Online Massage Therapy Training for Scoliosis

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral (sideways) curve of the spinal vertebrae. There are several causes for this lateral curvature: it can be caused by degeneration of the joints, prolonged postural issues, and severe back injuries. Scoliosis can be structural scoliosis (the bones themselves are affected) or functional scoliosis (the muscles are pulling the back out of place). It is not uncommon for people to have a small degree of curvature that never affects their daily life. Depending on its severity, you may not even need the slightest treatment, or only need occasional physical therapy, and seldom need for surgery for correction.

Why Massage?

Whatever the cause of the scoliosis, prolonged improper body mechanics can affect the body in a lot of ways. What may have started as a minor curve can gradually worsen as the affected muscles tire, atrophy, and stretch or contract (depending on which side of the curve they are on). Massage helps these muscles by relaxing them and encouraging them to work towards a proper alignment. Muscles on the inside of the curve are stretched and released, while muscles on the outside are stimulated to contract harder. Often a gradually increasing curve can be stopped or even partially reversed with consistent therapy, stretching, and balancing strengthening work.
