Bentosa (Fire Cupping) Massage Therapy Training

Negative pressure cupping therapy is an ancient orientaltherapy in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (either by heat or suction) in order to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is moved, causing the skin and muscle to be pulled. This is called glidingcupping.

Sanitized glass or plastic suction cups are generally used for cupping, although bamboo cups are also used. Glass cups are fitted with a valve that attaches to a small hand-operated pump, allowing the practitioner to suck out air without having to rely on fire to depressurise the cup first. It also gives them greater control over the amount of suction. The modern name for cupping is suction cup therapy.

Online Massage Therapy Training for Scoliosis

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral (sideways) curve of the spinal vertebrae. There are several causes for this lateral curvature: it can be caused by degeneration of the joints, prolonged postural issues, and severe back injuries. Scoliosis can be structural scoliosis (the bones themselves are affected) or functional scoliosis (the muscles are pulling the back out of place). It is not uncommon for people to have a small degree of curvature that never affects their daily life. Depending on its severity, you may not even need the slightest treatment, or only need occasional physical therapy, and seldom need for surgery for correction.

Why Massage?

Whatever the cause of the scoliosis, prolonged improper body mechanics can affect the body in a lot of ways. What may have started as a minor curve can gradually worsen as the affected muscles tire, atrophy, and stretch or contract (depending on which side of the curve they are on). Massage helps these muscles by relaxing them and encouraging them to work towards a proper alignment. Muscles on the inside of the curve are stretched and released, while muscles on the outside are stimulated to contract harder. Often a gradually increasing curve can be stopped or even partially reversed with consistent therapy, stretching, and balancing strengthening work.

Aromatherapy Massage for Better Health

Adding aromatherapy massage oils to your therapy program is one experience everyone should try at more often. (Be careful they have been known to be addictive to it). With the combination of massage and a scented room to awaken your senses, you have the ultimate in relaxation and healing.

Aromatic massage oils are most commonly used to heal various problems in a natural way. This is because the oil enters into the person's veins and bloodstream wherein it starts to work. Some of the problems that aromatherapy massage oils are very effective for include the common cold, aches, menopause, skin problems, physical injuries, sleeping problems and cough just to name just a few. Of course, these aromatherapy massage oils also help to improve a person's ability to concentrate and to be alert.

Many medical conditions require creams and massage oils. Sunburn, dry skin, and razor burn leave the skin feeling rough and sometimes painful, and people would like to have their skin feel supple. One of the most effective means of treating these conditions is the use of organic aromatherapy massage oil. Using all natural ingredients, these massage oils don't harm animals, and they don't irritate allergies.

Fundamental Principles of Massage - DOH (Department of Health Massage License Review)

While there are a wide variety of forms of massage and bodywork, all with their own theoretical or philosophical perspectives, there are certain basic principles they all tend to hold in common.
Release of Muscle Tension.

Chronic muscular tension as a result of high stress lifestyles, trauma, or injury can accumulate and impair the body’s structure and function. Psychological well-being is also affected. Release of tension allows greater relaxation, which has important physiological and psychological benefits.

Structure and Function Are Interdependent.

The musculoskeletal structure of the body affects function and function affects structure. Both can be adversely altered by stress or trauma. Massage therapy and bodywork can help restore healthy structure and function, thereby allowing better circulation, greater ease of movement, wider range of movement, more flexibility, and the release of chronic patterns of tension.

Enhancement of All Systems of the Body.

All bodily systems are affected by better circulation and more harmonious functioning of the soft tissue and musculature. Internal organ systems as well as the nervous system, the immune system, and other systems can benefit. There can be an overall improvement in the quality of life and physical health.

Code of Ethics - DOH (Department of Health Massage License Review)

What is a Code of Ethics?

A Code of Ethics is a statement which expresses the primary ethical values, obligations and goals of the profession. It is a commitment which serves to bear witness to our promise as a profession to uphold the values and ethical obligations expressed in the Code.
Why do we need a Code of Ethics?

A Code of Ethics gives definition to our commitment to practice in ethical terms. As regulated health professionals, we have made a promise to society to accept the responsibility and maintain the trust with which we have been invested.

What does a Code of Ethics do?

It lays out clearly the massage therapy profession's values and explains what they are in terms of what we ought to do in order to protect and promote the public good, and what we must avoid doing in order to prevent harm to the public.

Basic Human Anatomy - DOH (Department of Health Massage License Review)

What is basic anatomy?

Basic anatomy is one of the three major subdivisions of human anatomy (with Gross Anatomy and Histology). It is actually a code to understand the terminology and concepts of anatomy.

Basic anatomy introduces the students to the definitions, terminology and basic theme of anatomy. Without knowing the very basic concepts, it is very difficult to understand the complex structural details of human body and that is why, basic anatomy must be learned completely before learning human anatomy. In the gross anatomy, you will study the general and special features of Humerus (arm bone) however, you first need to know what is a bone and what are its characteristics. This part of anatomical study is covered in Basic Anatomy and from this illustration, you can easily imagine the importance of it.

Hygiene Practice - DOH (Department of Health Massage License Review)

Close Proximity to Clients

When you choose to be a professional massage therapist, you choose a career where you will be in very close proximity with others. Keeping that in mind, it's vital tht you consider your own personal hygiene, so that you don't offend your clients.
Quit Smoking

One of the very first things that comes to mind is smoking. If you're a smoker, you may not realize that the smell of smoke lingers on your hair, your uniform, along with your fingers. I distinctly remember getting a massage, and when the therapist was doing a facial massage, I could smell the smoke on her fingers. It took a soothing experience and turned it into an unpleasant one for me. Do you smoke? What are your clients thinking? I'll be honest, I didn't return to that therapist after that session. If you're a smoker, it's important that you don't smoke between clients. Many people find the smell of smoke that lingers on you offensive. Someone is paying for your time, and you don't want that tiny little factor to be the reason your clients don't return.

Keeping a Fresh Breath

Another personal hygiene issue you'll want to think about is your body odor and your breath. Because you'll be so close to others, this again can be the difference between a one time client and a return client. Most clients will not tell you they found you offensive, but I can guarantee they will find a new massage therapist. Brush your teeth and floss often. Daily showers and deodorant help keep body odor at bay.

FREE Facial Massage Training Class

Even the most basic facial massage helps achieve healthy, younger looking skin by slowing down the aging process. Massage is considered to be one of the oldest forms of therapy and healing. Having a facial massage on a regular basis can lead to firmer, more radiant skin by minimizing fine lines and wrinkles, moisturizing, and releasing tension. Along with numerous skin benefits, facial massage also provides relief for stress, sinus congestion, and migraine headaches.

Facial massage can be done by a massage therapist, a cosmetologist, an aesthetician, or done at home. The most comfortable position for most clients is on a massage chair or table, but any flat surface will work. Always use massage oil made especially for the face. This product is available through many skin care companies. This oil moisturizes the skin and helps facilitate movement over the delicate facial areas.

Start with cleansing the face first. An exfoliant or masque may also be used prior to the massage. The exfoliant is good for increasing the blood flow and sloughing off any dead skin cells. This leaves the face clean and ready for a moisturizing massage.
